1 – What is cool roof technology?
Ans.: Roof coated with such materials that retain less heat and stay cooler than normal roof by reflecting more sunlight and conducts less heat.
2 - How does a cool roof work ?
Ans.: Generally when solar radiation falls on roof, the roof surface performs four fuctions :
➢ It reflects a part of the incident solar back to the atmospere.
➢ It conducts a part of the heat through itself into the buildings.
➢ It convects a part of the heat to the ambient air (external & internal)
➢ It emits a part of the absorbed heat to internal surfaces and back to the sky.
When coated with cool roof it reflects, solar energy (Solar reflectance) and emits absorbed energy.
3 – How is the coating applied ?
Ans.: The coating can be applied using spray, roller or bush. The roof must be throughly cleaned and allowed to dry thoroughly. This is a critical step to ensure a successful coating application. Then two coating paint is applied with a gap of 4 hours to 8 hours.
4 - Will a reflective coating extend the life of a roof?
Ans.: Yes. The coating becomes the first layer of UV and water proofing protection for the roof and helps reduce expansion and contraction of the roof.
5 – What is life of the coating ?
Ans. : The technology is well formulated, UV stabilized and prepared to face Indian climate and perform for years. The life of the coating is expected more than 12 years.
6 – Is is cost effective to coat the building with ceramic based cool coat?
Ans.: Yes very much. The cost of the building is much higher than the cost of coating to protect it. The savings from electricity towards air-conditioner running is quite good to pay back the investment with in 4 years. It is comfortable and healthy to live in a room cooler during summer with out air-conditioners.
